Salt scrubs are great not only for your skin, but they’re also wonderful for clearing and balancing your energy field! As an energy worker, salt is a key part of my personal cleansing routine, and I often recommend it to my clients before and after energy work, or whenever they feel like they could use a good “psychic scrub.”

And rather than purchasing expensive products, making your own organic salt scrub is super easy – you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen cupboards! I like to use a 1:1 ratio of salt to oil, but you can really vary it to your preferences. You can use just about any kind of salt (I like pink Himalayan sea salt) and almost any kind of oil; I really love coconut oil for all its additional health benefits.

Ingredients

  • Jar for the size of the scrub you want to make with lid – I recycle glass jars from food products; pictured here is a nice big ghee jar.
  • Oil of your choice – enough to fill half the jar. Popular choices are coconut, grapeseed, apricot kernel and avocado. Go for organic and non-GMO if you can, and avoid hydrogenated oils and oil blends like vegetable and canola. I’ve even tried olive oil but it smells like, well olive oil – so consider the scent in terms of your oil choice.
  • Salt of your choice – enough to fill half the jar. Himalayan pink sea salt is my preference; I’ve used celtic sea salt before as well. Avoid iodized table salt if you can.

TO MAKE

  1. Ensure your oil is liquified and then pour the oil into the jar, filling it halfway. Because I use coconut oil, it’s often hard, so I heat up my oven, place the empty glass jar on the oven top and spoon the coconut oil to fill up half of the jar. Then I wait for the oil to melt in the jar.
  2. Fill the rest of the jar with salt and mix until blended.
  3. Stir in about 15 drops of the essential oil(s) of your choice. Since I use my salt scrub for clearing and balancing, I like to use oils that have those properties. My favorites are lavender and geranium (see below for a list of additional options).
  4. Optional – sprinkle some dried lavender on top for a finishing touch.

To Use

I keep a jar handy in a safe, stable place in my shower. I scoop up several handfuls and scrub all over my body. I often find I give a real good scrub over my heart, particularly when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed or drained. Rinse off as you would soap, and use as needed.

* Please be careful with the glass jar in the shower! You want it to be somewhere it’s not going to fall and break in the tub. I use glass over plastic because of the BPA issue, but use what’s safest and easiest for you.

** Soaking in a tub of Epsom salt is another great energy balancing technique, but these salt scrubs work well if you don’t have a tub (and/or want a good added scrub)!
